Play Kids Games Online: Safety Tips For Parents

While the internet may be something useful and a great method of keeping kids busy, it’s still potentially dangerous. When they play kids games online, your children could come across someone or something undesirable. That’s what we fear and what most parents try to prevent.

You have quite a few options when it comes to things you can do to ensure safety online for kids. You should make sure they only use the computer where you can see them. That means no hiding out in their bedroom with the laptop. They could end up looking at sites or chatting with someone you don’t approve of and you would never even realize. Keep the computer out in a public room.

First, for little kids, look into a kid’s browser. These take over the entire screen and will allow children to see only pre-approved websites. You can later add more advanced websites as your child grows, but the browser can help prevent them from accidentally getting into another site that is inappropriate.

Skip sites that allow anyone to chat with anyone. These can be havens for pedophiles. There are plenty of games for kids where interaction isn’t an option so you can easily let them play without fear. Make sure they understand that you never know who you’re really talking to online.

Try installing a monitoring program that will let you know which websites have been viewed. Even if you miss something while the kids are online, you’ll see where they were and can discuss it with them. There are nanny software programs, too, that can block any sites you don’t want kids to see.

Make sure you set up a joint email account so you know exactly what your kids are signing up for and who they are talking to. They shouldn’t be allowed to have a private account until they are old enough to be responsible, which will depend on the child.

Talking to kids should not be underestimated. They need to understand that it can be very dangerous to give out personal information to strangers, even online. Names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Can all be used against them. It’s very important that children understand how to stay safe online, as well as in real life.

Your children can play kids games online and be perfectly safe, but you do need to remember that there are potential dangers out there. Keep an eye on what they’re doing.

Hello,

I think talking to your kids is most important thing you can do. Sometimes, restricting an access to particular website can cause opposite effect.

Although I am not a parent, there are people I know who are parents of young children. I do agree that there should be protection for kids who play online games. While it is unnecessary for parents to hover over their kids while they spend time on the computer, parents should check out sources for the games their kids play. Aeria Games makes single player games and mmorpgs. They have videos of their games on YouTube (16.http://bit.ly/AGtubech) so parents can check out what the games are like before their kids play them. By doing some background checks on the games, parents are doing their part to keep their children safe.
