How to Add Facebook Comments to your Arcade Website!

Filed in Arcade Webmasters Tips and Tricks 7 comments

Facebook is bigger than ever now. Websites are integrating facebook plugins into their site for promotion. Plus its really cool. If your arcade website script doesn’t feature comments (For instance ATS), this is an excellent alternative. If your site all ready has a comments feature, you can disable it and use this instead.

The instructions are very simple if you follow them! Enjoy!

1. Create facebook application if you haven’t all ready. The URL is http://developers.facebook.com/setup/

2. Add this line of code in your <html> tag

xmlns:fb=”http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml”

Will look something like this:

<html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”xmlns:fb=”http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml”>

3. Add this code to overall/layout/etc.html right above </body> tag. This is the javascript SDK for facebook

<div id=”fb-root”></div>
<script>
window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
FB.init({
appId  : ‘YOUR APP ID HERE’,
status : true, // check login status
cookie : true, // enable cookies to allow the server to access the session
xfbml  : true  // parse XFBML
});
};

(function() {
var e = document.createElement(‘script’);
e.src = document.location.protocol + ‘//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js’;
e.async = true;
document.getElementById(‘fb-root’).appendChild(e);
}());
</script>

4. Go get code for comments box @ http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments

in the field “Unique ID”  or XID, you will want to use your script’s function to call each separate game page. Example, for phpas4 it is game_%gameid%

Your code will look like:

<fb:comments xid=”"YOUR XID HERE”" width=”400″></fb:comments>

5. Insert code where you want the facebook comments to appear. Style it to your site and there you go! This will work for any script and any blog. Only thing that is different is the XID and this is where you need to know your script.

Enjoy!

Ive updated the post. Paul had mentioned a few ways to clean up the codes. So changes has been reflected in the code. This is now the most efficient way to add facebook comments to your site as far as I found online and the facebook dev forums. Enjoy!

Can you please explain what are the main benefits of having facebook comments? I use facebook like button, and people are liking my games, but still I don’t receive that much traffic back from facebook. Also, there is no SEO benefits, since links are on pages that are not crawlable. huh.

Thanks

Motocross Games – As you know allready, facebook is a great way to promote your site. When gamers place a comment, they can also have it posted on their wall. Sometimes this will create conversation and competition between friends on the same game.

Im not sure about any seo benefits, but Bing is starting to incorporate social “activity” into their search results so more could be better as far as facebook integration goes.
